Upon completing the course, students should be able to (1) discuss the history and principles of crime prevention, (2) conduct a residential or business survey and make recommendations, (3) set up a community watch program, (4) give a public presentation on a variety of crime prevention topics as covered in class, and (5) score at least a 70 on the posttest exam. The first day's sessions cover orientation, the pretest, and administrative matters; the history and principles of crime prevention; principles of risk management; and physical and electronic security. Second-day lessons focus on physical and electronic security (continued), implementing a community watch program, crime prevention for the elderly, and the prevention of domestic violence. The prevention of juvenile crime, news media relations, and security surveys are covered on the third day. The final day has sessions on rape prevention programs, the theft of and from motor vehicles, effective speaking, crime prevention resources, and the final exam. For each session, the material presented includes the lesson purpose, training objectives, hours, instructional method, materials required, and references. The content of each lesson is also outlined. Twenty-one bibliographic entries are provided.
