The workshop concerned the current status and future development of the Federal criminal information collection and processing system of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Abstract
Speakers addressed the theoretical and functional bases of the system, state-of-the-art and future of information technology, structure and uses of the German system in its present form, and legal aspects of police information collections. Police data systems in Sweden were also discussed. Other topics included information exchange between the police, courts, and other agencies; data security; police information collection and public opinion; automated data and research; impacts of automated systems on police personnel and traditional staff work; and police personnel training in data collection, interpretation, and application. Charts and tables are provided with individual papers.
