The average daily offender population in New Jersey State correctional institutions during 1982 was greater than the peak populations experienced in 1978 through 1981.
Abstract
This significant increase in institutional population resulted from the impact of Title 2C, the new criminal code, the administrative office of the courts' speedy trial program, and reductions in the numbers of offenders released to parole resulting from the Parole Act of 1980. New Jersey correctional facilities had an average total daily population of 9,051 offenders, an increase of 32 percent from 1981. Specific data for each institution are given in tables for average and end counts. Footnotes are included.
