Part 1, which contains materials from UNAFEI's 57th Seminar Course on Crime Prevention and Sound National Development, contains a paper which describes the history of the United Nations' activities in its developmental and crime prevention efforts, with attention given to the need for the incorporation of crime prevention policies in national and international development strategies. Other papers in this part examine the integration of crime prevention planning and developmental planning in Malaysia and Thailand. Part 2 is composed of materials from UNAFEI's Training Course on Integrated Approach to Effective Juvenile Justice Administration. One paper describes various categories of drugs according to their mental and physical effects, examines causes and factors contributing to drug addiction, and explores effective rehabilitative measures for drug addicts. Juvenile justice administration is examined from an Asian perspective, followed by papers portraying juvenile delinquency trends, processing, and drug abuse treatment in Hong Kong, Pakistan, and Singapore. The concluding section of part 2 presents proposed guidelines for the formulation of the standard minimum rules for juvenile justice administration.
