The results of medical screening of all male admissions to an urban jail during a ten-day period are recorded.
Abstract
In addition to the customary intake medical examinations, urinalyses, urethral cultures for gonorrhea, and genital examinations were performed. Morbidities and abnormalities were detected in higher incidences than found nationally. The screening provided a data base for planning an expanded health care delivery program at the jail and for seeking to improve access to postincarceration follow-up care. (Author abstract)
