This study presents data on the organizational structures of 51 prison systems in the United States.
Abstract
Organizational structure is defined by the size and degree of formalization, centralization, and specialization of the system. The distribution of these characteristics among prison health systems is analyzed and an empirical classification of different types of prison health system presented. Such a classification can serve as the basis for evaluating the relationship between prison health systems' organizational structure and their effectiveness. (Author abstract)
