It addresses the morphological characteristics and identification of bloodstains, sampling, physical measurement and recording of bloodstains, bloodstain patterns, and the matching of bloodstain patterns. Specifics of bloodstain patterns are dealt with in terms of velocity of spattering, direction and form of spattering (i.e., distance from origin), and surface patterns. The conclusion delineates seven rules that may be used for bloodstain examination by a scene investigator not formally trained in this specialized area. Extensive illustrations are provided; approximately 20 footnotes are given.
