During 1982, California law enforcement agencies reported 247,402 juvenile arrests to the Bureau of Criminal Statistics (BCS).
Abstract
During the same period, California probation departments reported 126,181 new referrral cases to BCS. There were 2,23l first commitments to the California Youth Authority from juvenile court in 1982. A total of 60,612 juvenile cases were under supervision by probation departments on Dec. 31, 1982. Rates for juvenile arrests and new referrals during the period 1973-82 have shown a steady decline since the peak in 1974. Tables, graphs, and charts provide detailed data on juvenile arrest dispositions, referrals, incarcerations, caseloads, and trends.
