This is an annotated digest of the decisional law concerning the operation of the criminal corrections system compiled from cases reporting during 1981.
Abstract
Annotated digests of the legal principles and relevant facts of every case on probation, parole, ex-offenders, and the operation of correctional institutions reported during the study year are included, together with selected cases on mental commitments and sentencing. Information on the cases was derived from the 'Federal Reporter,' 'Federal Supplement,' 'Federal Rules Decisions,' 'Criminal Law Reporter,' and 'United States Law Week.' Each case is digested under as many topical headings as applicable. A total of 57 topics are listed and include such issues as access to courts, clothing, detainers, good time, right to treatment, plumbing, lighting, racial discrimination, visitation, and others. These topical headings reflect the discrete factual problems involved in correctional law rather than the underlying legal theories. The topics are arranged alphabetically under the topics. Supreme Court activity is reported separately in terms of decisions, certiorari granted, certiorari denied, and certiorari filed. A table of cases and a topical index are supplied. A bibliographic table of articles lists over 200 items.
