This report presents basic descriptive information on selected characteristics of offenders admitted to the New York State Department of Correctional Services as court commitments.
Abstract
Information includes commitment offense type, prior adult criminal record, demographic variables (age, ethnicity, residence), and comparative data. Data show that there were 12,727 total admissions to the Department in calendar year 1982, with 80 percent of these being new court commitments. A total of 64 percent of the 1982 court commitments were convicted of violent felony offenses, and 96 percent of the commitments were males. Tables and graphs comprise most of the document.
