This presentation reviews data from four wards of the Inner City Partnership Area in Great Britain. Crime statistics are meaningless without acknowledgement of the influencing factors. Detailed data on offenses and offenders enable law enforcement officials to identify problem areas, develop and implement strategies, and determine underlying factors that may influence crime statistics. Before embarking on a long-term strategy, a deeper understanding of the nature of crime and its causes is necessary. Police officers alone cannot significantly reduce the level of crime. All sections of the community should assist in achieving this goal. Most of the functions of local government can help alleviate the problem of crime. Statistical tables and graphs are included.
