Research and program development efforts are discussed under the following categories: delinquent behavior and delinquency prevention, improvements in the juvenile justice system, and alternatives to traditional juvenile justice processing. Most resources in each area focused on serious juvenile crime. After surveying areas examined in this research and highlighting results, the report presents individual project summaries. Activities described under information development and dissemination include the Assessment Centers Program, journalism fellowships in juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, Juvenile Information System and Records Access, the National Uniform Juvenile Justice Reporting System, the Children in Custody Census, and the National Study of Institutions and Alternative Programs for Children and Youth with Special Problems and Needs. Specific training programs reviewed include the Juvenile Justice Training Center, the National Council of Juvenile Justice and Family Court Judges, Project READ, and Law-Related Education. The final section reports on juvenile justice standards development, dissemination, and implementation. It also assesses State legislative changes in juvenile justice systems. A directory of projects is supplied.
