Following a general discussion of the functions of the prison library, this annotated bibliography presents 119 entries on prison libraries published from 1958 through 1983.
Abstract
The bibliographic listings are classified under 18 categories, including administration and planning of correctional libraries, background readings about prisons and prison life, bibliographies related to correctional libraries, bibliotherapy, censorship issues, and correctional libraries and postsecondary education. Additional subject areas are correctional libraries and rehabilitation, education for correctional librarianship, funding, and the history of correctional libraries. Other classifications are law libraries in correctional institutions, library service to female prisoners and youthful offenders, selection of materials, public library service to correctional institutions, and standards and surveys of correctional library service. An author index is included.
