Abstract
The report compares the following crime categories for l982 and l983, showing the percent change: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. Using these categories, the report describes offenses and clearance rates for the urban population, the rural population, and the State. There were 928,827 offenses overall, and 22 percent were cleared. These figures are broken down for cities of different sizes, counties, and college campuses. A table on arson covers number of offenses, clearance rates, clearances involving offenders under l8, offenses in uninhabited structures, and value of property damage. Arrest data are broken down for 39 offense classifications by adult-juvenile and sex. The report provides information on law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and crimes reported by each contributing jurisdiction.
