Data are presented for the Federal Detention Center in Florence, Ariz., as well as metropolitan correctional centers in Tucson, Ariz.; San Diego, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Chicago, Ill.; and New York, N.Y. Jails and adult detention centers are listed alphabetically by State and subsequently by county. Starting salaries are presented for the administrator, deputy administrator, correctional captain/supervisor, correctional lieutenant/supervisor, and correctional officers. The total number of staff is also indicated. Fiscal data include the last annual budget (including State and local share), the last annual capital budget (new or renovation), and construction money appropriated for fiscal 1984. Information on the physical plant includes the year constructed, the year of last renovation, security levels, and inmate rated capacity. Data on the average daily inmate population for fiscal 1983 cover the number of adult and juvenile males and females as well as racial composition. Other information includes the address and phone number of the facility and the name of the jail administrator. Appendixes contain a discussion of 'new generation' jails, a list of jail inspection officials and agencies, information on the American Correctional Association, and a bibliography with 140 listings.
