This summary of 1983 Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) statistics for Hawaii notes that Index crime decreased 9.2 percent from 1982. However, while property crime decreased by 9.6 percent, violent crime increased by 1.5 percent.
Abstract
Larceny-theft remained the largest category of Index crimes. Murder and aggravated assault increased, while forcible rape and robbery decreased. Arson also increased. After a summary of crime trends, the report presents detailed statistics on Index crimes, including breakdowns by month, victim's race, age, and weapons used. These tables also cover value of property stolen and 5-year trends. The report provides a crime clock and a table ranking the 50 States by 1982 crime rates. Additional tables supply data on clearances, offenses reported to the police, and arrests broken down by age, sex, and race. UCR definitions are appended.
