A New Jersey Bell survey of its customers regarding custom calling services (CCS) revealed that security was becoming an important consideration for many subscribers and that nearly half of the respondents were aware their neighborhood had a crime watch program.
Abstract
Survey participants were asked to recall why they subscribed to a CCS, if they were aware of any crime watch programs in their area, and if they participated in such programs. Over half of all respondents stated convenience as the primary reason for subscribing to CCS, but only 42 percent of respondents with the call-forwarding feature indicated convenience as the major reason. Nearly 19 percent of all participants and 27 percent of the respondents with call-forwarding stated concern for security as the primary reason for purchasing a CCS feature. About 43 percent of all participants indicated their concern for security was somewhat influential in their decision, compared to 56 percent of the call-forwarding participants. Approximately 56 percent of the call-forwarding respondents knew their neighborhood had a crime watch program, while 49 percent of all participants answered positively. Two-fifths of the persons who were aware of the local crime watch effort also actively participated in the program. Tables are included.
