Although electronic security systems provide the most effective type of security available, they are not completely effective. However, their effectiveness can be improved with the use of supplementary deterrents. There are a wide variety of supplementary deterrents available. Those selected as being applicable at Westminster are window screens, exit controls, protected housing for current periodicals, and user education. The cost of these supplementary deterrents is significant but unavoidable. (Author abstract)
