Advice on planning the slide/tape program includes a list of planning steps, guidelines for selecting a resource person, a sample letter confirming participation by a resourse person, a sample news release advertising the slide program, suggestions for equipment use, and a checklist of steps to ensure a successful program. Suggestions for conducting the program cover program coordination, a statement to introduce the program, room arrangement, and recommendations for discussion. In presenting an overview of the types of crime prevalent in rural areas, attention is given to vandalism, the leading offense; theft; trespassing; burglary; and criminal fraud (con games). The security measures discussed focus primarily on property crimes. The four 'D's' of crime prevention -- deny the criminal access to targets, deter the criminal, delay the criminal, and detect the criminal -- are briefly considered, followed by a discussion of a zone approach to securing rural property. This consists of dividing property into four zones according to varying levels of vulnerability: the perimeter, outlying property, central work areas, and storage areas. Security measures for each of these zones are described.
