The act requires that the claim be filed within 2 years of the injury or death. Once the claim has been filed, The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board gathers all necessary documentation to process the claim, and the decision is forwarded directly to the claimant. For the year ending March 31, 1984, a total of $985,371 in benefits was paid, and total expenditures amounted to $1,122,345. Four tables provided record the disposition of claims for April 1, 1983, to March 31, 1984, with comparative statistics for the previous period; document the types of claims approved; analyze the claim benefits paid for the latter part of 1974 up to March 1984; and record the number of claims processed during 1-year periods. Four figures are also included. They illustrate the ages of victims for which claims were filed, compare the employment status of those victims, compare the sex of the victims for which criminal injuries claims were filed, and illustrate the crime occurrence area of the Province.
