A wide sampling of print outreach materials, developed for either individual neighborhoods or program-wide distribution, is provided for use by community-based conflict resolution programs.
Abstract
The material includes leaflets, brochures, flyers, and assorted information pieces, and generally falls into three categories: recruitment (to increase the size and diversity of membership); case generation (to broaden the scope and increase the number of cases); and general education (providing overview information and background about community boards). The recruitment materials describe the various volunteer roles available and the importance of conflict resolution and neighborhood building. They also emphasize the skills to be learned and the opportunities for meeting and working together with neighbors. Case generation materials list the types of conflicts that can be handled and suggest the practical aspects of a panel hearing (free, quick, informal, and convenient). Educational materials consist of such items as a history of the program, policy papers outlining the values and importance of neighborhood conciliation work, referral information for agencies, articles on community boards, a description of hearings, mid-year and annual reports, and information on endorsements and awards received. Speakers' materials, including an outline of a sample presentation and suggestions for skits to illustrate eight disputes and their resolutions, are also provided.
