Each session is arranged in the following format: First, the major purpose of the session is described, followed by the agenda for that session; second, an outline indicates what each participant should learn in the session; third, trainer instructions are included. The nine woman abuse sessions cover (1) introduction to woman abuse, (2) working with battered women (two sessions), (3) the connections between chemical dependency and family violence, (4) working with male batterers, (5) legal issues relevant to working with battered women, (6) working with children from violent homes, (7) child abuse/incest, and (8) wrap-up/staff-to-staff workshop. The sessions on chemical dependency cover (1) introduction to chemical dependency, (2) introduction to other drug abuse, (3) assessment and intervention techniques, (4) the family illness, (5) the connection between chemical dependency and family violence, (6) working with children from chemically dependent families, (7) working with the woman chemical abuser, (8) fetal alcohol syndrome and other effects of chemicals on pregnancy, (9) group approach to chemical dependency, and (10) wrap-up/staff-to-staff workshop.
