Annotation
A journalist who has reported on the Quebec scene for the past few years comments on police use of informants.
Abstract
The author describes several examples of cases from the 1970's that used informants, and laws providing assistance to such individuals are reviewed. He concludes that although informants are necessary in modern law enforcement, the police role in this type of intelligence gathering is ambiguous, morally suspect, and hardly neutral.
