This codebook for the 1948-77 study of juvenile delinquency and adult crime in Racine, Wis., has sections for police contact data, age-by-age data, and contact-by-contact data. Data collection procedures are also described.
Abstract
The 1942 birth cohort consisted of 1,352 persons, the 1949 cohort of 2,099 persons, and the 1955 cohort of 2,676 persons (a total of 6,127 persons). These data were organized into three data sets: individual-level 'police contact' data for all three cohorts, individual-level interview and contact data for the 1942 and 1949 cohorts, and individual-level contact data classified by age for all three cohorts. Interview variables included retrospective measures of the respondent's perception of his/her past police contacts, attitudes toward the police, and a variety of other variables such as socioeconomic status and marriage age. Codebook appendixes contain detailed codes, recodes, and coding instructions and code sheets.
