Abstract
The processing of claims is explained, and the costs of administering Alaska Statute 18.67, which established the Violent Crimes Compensation Board, are noted. In fiscal year 1984, total costs amounted to $173,858.80. Two-hundred and nineteen claims were received, including 58 for homicide, 1 for armed robbery, and 51 for sexual assault. The awards granted totaled $552,704.71. Public awareness of the program is examined. Three data tables are provided, including one that presents the number of homicides, aggravated assaults, rapes, and robberies in Alaska for each year from 1973 through 1983.
