The broad definitions and specific indicators of physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional maltreatment are presented. A discussion of legal issues focuses on legal responsibilities, how to report, court appearances, and outcomes for families. Advice is given on how nurses should deal with their personal attitudes and educational needs. Interventions in maternity and neonatal units, emergency units, pediatric inpatient units, and community health nursing are discussed.
