This manual presents operating instructions for the computerized jury selection system in St. Louis County, Mo.
Abstract
Each year, the driver motor vehicle file is merged with the voter registration file, with duplications eliminated. The jury clerk submits selection slips each week asking for a given number of jurors to report in 8 weeks on a Monday or Wednesday. Each juror receives a jury prenotice and an excuse and biographical information card. The jury clerk keys the biographies of the jurors who have not been granted an excuse. After those excused are deleted, summonses are mailed. At the end of the seventh week, the names of the jurors due to report at the eighth week are matched to their biographical data keyed earlier and are copied onto an online report file. An online report file is used in conjunction with the online printer and terminals set up in the jury assembly room. The juror's entry and return from jury panels are recorded in this file, as are any other pertinent data on the jurors. The last step entails the submission of names for the payroll procedures. Diagrams, sets of instructions, sample lists, flow charts, and related materials are included. (Author summary modified)
