Study data came from public hearings, suggestions from government agencies, recommendations from experts, and an examination of actions taken in other States to compensate and assist crime victims. A historical overview of Nevada's program is followed by discussions of other State and Federal programs and recent efforts by the judicial system to improve treatment of victims. Recommendations cover the procedures for granting awards, the types of crime eligible, the amounts of awards, and training on victims' rights for police officers. Initial screening of applications for awards and a liberal interpretation of statutes dealing with aid to victims are recommended. Reciprocal agreements with other States is also recommended. A bibliography listing 78 references and 25 appendixes presenting charts, letters, forms, statistics, and background material are included.
