Part I (25 min) reenacts the step-by-step training of a police dog from the time he is accepted by the Baltimore Police Department until his first day on patrol. The performance of the Baltimore K-9 corps is demonstrated by reenactments of a dog protecting his partner from a man who pulls a gun after a traffic stop and a dog's successful search for narcotics on a freighter. Part II (25 min) portrays performances of the Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, and San Francisco K-9 corps. The Washington K-9 corps demonstrates searches for bombs in the Robert F. Kennedy Stadium and at the Dulles International Airport. The role of D.C. police dogs in public relations, particularly with school children, is also demonstrated. The Minneapolis K-9 corps reenacts a search for a lost child, the apprehension of two men about to assault a police officer, and the location of evidence that led to the arrest of a rapist. The San Francisco K-9 corps demonstrates a systematic building search for a burglar, and a San Francisco officer recounts how he and his K-9 partner apprehended a team of burglars.
