Steps which should be taken to enhance the security of mobile home parks are delineated.
Abstract
Residents' vehicles should be registered with the onsite manager for ready identification, and stickers should be affixed to all registered vehicles. Parking areas should be designated for residents only and for visitors. A chainlink fence or sturdy wall should be constructed around the perimeter of the mobile home park, and the number of entrances and exits should be kept to a minimum to enhance perimeter control. Properly marked speed bumps across roadways can help control the speed of vehicular traffic through the park. Additional measures to enhance security include the use of closed circuit television to monitor activity in the park, signs announcing the presence of security measures, neighborhood watch programs, and proper lighting. In contracting for professional security guard services, the owner or management should solicit several bids; the company selected should be properly licensed and insured. The security guard company should provide the park management with a security survey report that contains recommendations for fixed posts, guards' hours, personnel training, hourly rates, uniforms, and other considerations. The security company should provide guards with post orders and a guard shack. In mobile home parks, residents and management must cooperate to ensure that the security program is in place, working, and adequate for the needs of the park.
