Speakers included the director and president of the Entertainment Industries Council, the president of Congressional Families for Drug-Free Youth, and the youth project consultant for the National Federation of Parents for Drug-Free Youth. Other speakers were the principal, Northside High School, Atlanta; the president of Pharmacists Against Drug Abuse Foundation and McNeil Pharmaceutical; and the program director for STRAIGHT, Inc., of Washington, D.C. They presented data on the incidence of drug use among adolescents, the fact that the decision to use drugs is often made at age 12 or younger, and the relationships between drug use, school attendance, school achievement, and delinquency. Efforts being made by the entertainment industry to reduce the attraction of drugs and to deal with drug problems within the industry were outlined. An appendix includes prepared statements from a senator and from three of the speakers.
