The training modules can be used separately or in a series. They explain how criminal justice personnel can deal more effectively with cases of child abuse and how personnel in the area of child abuse and neglect can work in cooperation with other professionals for the welfare of the abused child and the abusive parent. An introductory module presents society's attitudes and feelings about child abuse throughout history. It also covers the feelings and attitudes that are an integral part of dealing with child abuse and neglect. Additional modules cover child development and the effects of abuse on it, the identification of child abuse and neglect, intervention and investigation, and laws and the law enforcement role in these cases. Further modules involve the community resources and procedure for dealing with child abuse and neglect and the professional's role on multidisciplinary teams. For each module, the method of presentation, content summary and outline, discussion questions, and annotated list of resources needed by the instructor are given. A bibliography lists 78 references.
