Of the 113,600 felony arrests, 83,867 were from New York City; 17,410 were from other metropolitan areas; and 12,323 were from nonmetropolitan areas. Arrests involved more males (90.1 percent) than females (9.9 percent), more blacks (47.2 percent) than whites (31.3 percent) or Hispanics (21.1 percent), and more young (under 25 years old) offenders (57 percent) than older offenders. Moreover, 46.3 percent of the arrests were for property crimes, 33.9 percent were for personal crimes, and 11 percent were for drug crimes. The overwhelming majority of felony arrests were prosecuted and disposed of as a result of court action. Overall, 62.5 percent of the arrests ultimately resulted in conviction; 46.7 percent of all convictions resulted in incarceration.
