The data show that there were 8,138 violent crimes (murder, non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) reported in 1984, an increase of 2.9 percent from 1983. Property crimes -- burglary, theft/larceny, and motor vehicle theft -- decreased 4.2 percent over 1983. Arrests increased slightly with whites making up 82.1 percent of the total arrestees and blacks, 16.6 percent. Overall, 15,692 juveniles were arrested in 1984 compared to 14,953 in 1983. Assaults on Kansas law enforcement officers increased 3 percent, from 1,015 in 1983 to 1,045 in 1984. Finally, there were 5,348 full-time law enforcement employees in Kansas in 1984, up from 5,334 in 1983. Included are 54 tables and a glossary.
