The following offenses accounted for 85 percent of the probation cases over the study period: assault, burglary, criminal mischief, grand larceny, robbery, criminal possession of stolen property, drug offenses, weapons offenses, and driving drug offenses, weapons offenses, and driving while intoxicated. Probation for driving while intoxicated has increased more than for any other offense for 1980-1984, due to the law enforcement focus on this State penal law, 266 (80 percent) are probation eligible, and an additional 3 percent are conditionally eligible. 4 notes and tabular data.
