Rules for data use detail specific restrictions to limit access from within and without the criminal justice community and to control use of data for research. Policies governing dissemination consider identification of data received through the system, nondisclosure agreements, training for users, and screening by a central State computer. Other policy statements cover a citizen's right to challenge the contents of his or her records, civil remedies for those injured by misuse of the system, and the organization and administration of a computerized criminal history information system.
