The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention provides financial and technical assistance to States and localities to improve juvenile justice, reduce delinquency, and test and disseminate juvenile justice programs.
Abstract
Four major themes will be emphasized in the agency's 1987 program plan. Funding will be directed toward programs to prevent and control serious juvenile crime, including drug abuse and youth gangs, and improve processing and corrections for serious juvenile offenders. In addition, the agency will assist States in complying with statutory mandates and will develop accurate statistical information that can be used as a planning tool for monitoring the extent and nature of juvenile crime and the effects of juvenile justice policies and programs. Finally, the agency will initiate activities aimed at locating and returning missing children and aiding children who have been missing or exploited. Descriptions and proposed fund allocations for specific programs emphasizing these themes are provided within broad categories such as prevention, law enforcement, prosecution, adjudication, and supervision.
