This manual gives step-by-step instructions and background information for use by California police agencies in investigating cases involving the sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children.
Abstract
The guidelines cover the initial receipt of information, arrival at the scene, the interview of the victim and witnesses, the reconstruction of the crime, notifications, steps to take in obtaining medical treatment, and completion of the crime report. They also outline communication with the victim, the collection and preservation of physical evidence, protective custody, and the disposition of victims and siblings. Information is also given on treatment approaches, reporting requirements, signs of child abuse and neglect, and procedures to follow when the child is in foster or residential care. Addresses of local contacts, excerpts of California law, forms, and appended guidelines on interviewing and evidence collection.
