This special report traces the history of the Ku Klux Klan and updates the activities of the Klan and other white supremacist groups.
Abstract
Articles in the report examine the development of bigotry in children and adolescents, study how State and local governments have enacted legislation to prevent Ku Klux Klan and white supremacist violence, and focus on how those in the Klan and the white supremacist movement have used the techniques of confrontation, consensus building, and media manipulation to achieve their goals. The militant revolutionary actions of the Klan and other radical racists are explored, and the police work that led to the arrest and indictment of many of those who committed crimes based on racial and ethnic hatred is discussed. Leaders in the white supremacist movement are identified. Violence by white supremacists against gays is identified as a new variety of hate crime.
