While most processed cocaine comes to the United States from Colombia, more than half of the raw coca used to make cocaine grows on the jungle hillsides of Bolivia and Peru. The social and economic impact of coca on Peruvian Indians and peasants is described, as well as the processes of growing coca and making coca paste. The involvement of the underworld and indiginous social and political organizations in the coca trade is also detailed.
