The seminars targeted audiences of concerned peers, parents, educators, and public sectors serving young people. Funded by a grant from Rockland County, New York, the seminars were offered free of charge to the general public. The purpose was to amalgamate overlapping public services with information, procedures, and experiences in support and cooperation against drug use in the community. The first seminar included representatives of different religious perspectives, values, and services relating to substance abuse. The second seminar focused on national and local legal perspectives, while the third seminar considered law enforcement's role in drug abuse prevention. The final two seminars discussed social and medical programs. Seminars incorporated the views of such organizations and programs as the Salvation Army, VAASA (Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse, DADDY (Dads Against Dangerous Drugs for Youth), DARE (Drug/Alcohol Rehabilitation/Education), and social service and medical programs. Seminar participants looked at national drug control legislation, the defense counsel's role in dealing with youth drug abuse, police narcotics task forces, and drug use in the 1980's.
