This report presents statistical information on the offender population within the California State prison system and State mental hospitals for type of offense, ethic status, age group, and geographic area of commitment.
Abstract
Data are provided for the most serious offense by institution in categories of violent offenses, property offenses, drug offenses, and other offenses. The latter category covers escape, driving under the influence, arson, possession of weapon, and other offenses. Information on the most serious offenses is also analyzed for type of commitment, ethnic group by institution and by commitment, and age group by institution and by type of commitment. Geographic data are organized into Southern California, San Francisco Bay area, northern and central regions, and other jurisdictions such as youth authority or State and Federal custody. The last analyses cover parole/outpatient return status under current commitment by institution and type of commitment in categories of felon, safekeeper, narcotic addict, Federal case, other State prisoner, Youth Authority, and diagnostic case by institution. 11 tables
