Abstract
Individual chapters explain the increasing role of private security in law enforcement; the personal characteristics and professional skills needed by competent investigators; and techniques for conducting initial interviews. Additional chapters focus on methods of obtaining evidence from law and expert witnesses; the gathering of information from public and private sources; evidence collection and preservation; surveillance techniques; and techniques for report writing. The text then applies these basic skills to specific case situations, including theft and property offenses, insurance cases, accident investigations, and background checks of individuals. Finally, administrative aspects of operating a security office are described. Figures, forms, checklists, photographs, and chapter reference notes
