The nine major indicators used are the percentage of low-birth-weight babies, the infant mortality rate, child mortality for ages 1-14, the violent death rate for adolescents ages 15-19, the percentage of all births that are to single teenagers, the juvenile custody rate for ages 10-15, the percentage graduating from high school, the percentage of children in poverty, and the percentage of children in single-parent families.
