This directory lists all of the United States courts and provides a clear picture, in a single volume, of the various court systems and the means of access and communication with each court.
Abstract
The directory is divided into four sections: Federal courts, courts of the States and the District of Columbia, courts of the territories, and courts of the Native American tribes. Within each section, the types of courts are listed in reverse order of the route of appeal and in descending order of jurisdiction. The Supreme Court, or court of last resort, precedes the intermediate appellate court which precedes the general jurisdiction courts including the circuit, district, and superior courts. Finally, the lists conclude with the courts of limited jurisdiction, i.e., the county, municipal, and justice of the peace courts. The means by which courts are sorted within each level are clearly indicated before each listing. Depending on the manner in which the States refer to their own courts and by the needs of the directory's users, some courts are listed alphabetically by county while others are arranged by court name or district number.
