The information focuses on models of local, State, and Federal coordination and cooperation in the location of missing children; programs that promote community awareness of the problem of missing children; programs that prevent the abduction and sexual exploitation of children; and program models that provide treatment, counseling, or other aid to parents of missing children or to children who have been victims of abduction or sexual exploitation. Research projects sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) are described. They include a national study of police agencies' policies and practices for handling missing children and homeless youth; a national incidence study to determine the numbers of missing children; linkages between the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and juvenile delinquency; and the role of pornography in family violence, child exploitation, and juvenile delinquency. Demonstration projects funded by OJJDP are also described along with other Federal initiatives. Representative State initiatives are described for a number of States. They include programs to educate children, their families, and communities on prevention techniques and the development and coordination of information-sharing capabilities.
