Abstract
Experts, scholars, and advocates from Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and the United States met at the symposium to discuss national approaches to gun control, to analyze the connection between guns and family violence, and to address the value of comparative analysis. A panel on family violence and the role of guns included discussion of: (1) how domestic violence is related to the possession of guns; (2) the consequences of weapons possession and gun possession as the abuse of power; (3) how family violence has been studied through the use of victim surveys; (4) research and the impact of gun use on domestic violence in Germany; and (5) violence against women. Another panel addressed the issues of gun control, weapons possession, and weapons-related violence in an international and comparative context, including societal influences. This document also includes scholarly articles and book reviews on gun control and the relationship between guns and certain types of violence See NCJ 163454-163457.
