This manual presents guidelines for use in training faculty for a 45-hour, university-based, credit course on victim assistance and victimology; the 5-day course covers more than 30 topics and will be conducted simultaneously on three campuses in 1996.
Abstract
An overview explains the background of the National Victim Assistance Academy, the curriculum structure, and the role of the faculty. Additional sections explain the difference between teaching and training, the ways in which adults learn, practical considerations involved in programs for adult learners, and theories and techniques to enhance learning. Further sections explain how to handle difficult situations and audience interactions, presentation delivery skills, and the use of technology to expand and enhance teaching by increasing access to information and using distance learning. Other sections focus on stress management techniques and methods for ensuring quality in teaching. The final chapter presents abstracts of each chapter of the academy text, as well as learning objectives and self-examinations. Appended checklist and 7 references
