Most of the data came from two computer systems: the Justice Information System and the Courts Administration Authority. The data reveal that the number of crimes reported to police increased by 0.9 percent from 1994 to 1995. Property offenses represented almost two-thirds of all offenses and increased by 0.2 percent from 1994. Offenses against the person increased by 1 percent, robbery and extortion offenses decreased by 3.1 percent, sex offenses decreased by 13.1 percent, drug law offenses declined, and public order offenses increased by 7.2 percent. The magistrates courts completed 38,292 criminal matters, while the number of cases completed by higher courts declined by 151 from the previous year. The daily average number of prison inmates was 1,305, an increase of 72 from 1994. The police recorded 10,118 juvenile arrests involving 5,591 individuals. Larceny and receiving accounted for 29.8 percent of the cases, public order offenses for 20 percent, and drug law offenses for 13.2 percent.
