This 1996 Annual Report of the Judicial Council of California contains a summary of its 1995 activities and statistics on court operations for fiscal years 1985-86 through 1994-95.
Abstract
The summary of 1995 activities contains a section on "Courts in Review." It notes that in response to pressures posed by inadequate resources and the growing demand for court services, the Judicial Council continued to re-examine every aspect of court operation and to initiate needed reforms. Many long-time efforts, such as the pursuit of adequate funding for the trial courts and the coordination of trial court resources, remain the Council's primary focus for 1996. A section on trial court funding reports that the Judicial Council's Task Force on Trial Court Funding concluded that the Governor's Proposed Budget for fiscal year 1996-97 provides a simplified budgeting process that would allow the trial courts a measure of independence and accountability that is not achievable under the current funding structure. Other sections in the summary of 1995 Council activities focus on trial court coordination reports, a report to the legislature on judgeship need, court interpreter services, the report of the Advisory Committee on Court Technology, the implementation of gender fairness in the courts, and family court services statistics. The second major division of the Annual Report presents statistics on the operation of the California Supreme Court, courts of appeal, superior courts, municipal courts, and judicial assignments and assistance.
